Dexter Institute

Recognizing that the key to our success lies in the hands of an exceptionally trained and highly skilled workforce, we dedicate significant resources to our training division, the Dexter Institute. Through courses offered internally and externally, the Institute is one of the primary driving forces behind our success. It continues to provide educational and training experiences that meet or exceed current legislative standards and industry best practices.
 
Through the Dexter Institute, we:

  • Deliver world-class training programs in the areas of safety, operational/technical, leadership, management and professional development. 
  • Offer more than 75 different courses, including: health & safety, orientations, technical, operational, supervisory and leadership.
  • Provide “hands-on” experience with materials such as: a mobile air brake demonstration board, a confined space training tank, isolation training boards, first aid training resources, fall prevention/protection equipment and various equipment for training of operators (off road and tandem trucks, graders, dozers, loaders, excavators, aerial platforms, skid steer, forklift).
  • Employ staff members with degrees and/or experience in construction, construction management, adult education and other specialized areas (i.e. heavy equipment). 
  • Continue to expand our training facilities, program and service offerings as well as our human resource capacity.
  • Offer courses in French.
The Dexter Institute utilizes distinct training methods and innovative technologies to stand alone as a best-in-class training organization. These include:
  • Training programs supported by electronic presentations and speaker notes to ensure maximum continuity and consistency for delivery (scope and sequence)  
  • The use of SMART board ™ and video conferencing technology for training purposes
  • Use of the latest simulation training technologies
  • Teaching methods that promote participant engagement: in-class workshops, case studies, discussions, hands on exercises, and field skill formation
  • A proprietary management application used to register learners, track course results, track and generate certification, and maintain learner records.
  • Experience with e-learning programs for enhanced support and efficiency, including Web CT, Camtasia, and Adobe Captivate
The Institute continues to seek out, evaluate and adopt new technologies as they become available. We are careful in our selection process to ensure each technological innovation adopted provides a benefit to the learner. It has been our strategy to not only fulfill the training needs of our sister companies, but also the needs of clients and other contractors.
